formerly of Kennett Square and West Grove, Pa.
Bernard “Barney” William Ehrhart, 72, of Fairmont, W. Va. passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Wilmington, Del. on May 25, 1943, a son of the late Alexander Ehrhart and Virginia Long Ehrhart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Katherine “Anne”. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Selby and her husband Jeff, of Fairmont, W. Va., and Lady of Glencoe Tracy MacDonald of Scotland. Also surviving Mr. Ehrhart is his sister June Sheets and her husband Jerry, of Glenmoore, Pa. Grandchildren include Jaquelynn and Stephen Selby of W. Va., Rachael Selby of Calif. and Shane, Amy, and Jason Frost of England, and nephew Jeremy Sheets of Pa. Barney also had eight great grandchildren in England and California. Mr. Ehrhart graduated from Kennett Consolidated High School, Kennett Square, Pa. in 1961, having grown like brothers throughout his childhood years with the Barton family boys and remained close through the years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1961 to 1969 as a radio electrician and avionics technician and rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served tours of duty in Morocco, England, Thailand, and the United States. Following military service he was involved in career paths including Industrial Electrician, Boatwright, Mechanic, Caterer, and Commercial Driver. Barney enjoyed the great outdoors. He loved camping, fishing, and road trips. He was an accomplished sailor who spent many years sailing and restoring boats along the eastern shore with life-long friends, Dale and Kay Denning. He enjoyed marksmanship and reloading with his friend, Tony Morris, PHD. During retirement he spent several years tending the grounds at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Fairmont, W. Va., where he was a parishioner and member of the Holy Name Society. He also enjoyed spiritual retreats at the Paul VI Pastoral Center of Wheeling, W. Va. The family would like to extend their thanks for the kind support and care given to Mr. Ehrhart by People’s Hospice, United Hospital Center, and the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. Barney went to the dwelling place his Father has prepared for him following a short stay at Mapleshire by Stonerise Healthcare in Morgantown, W. Va., lovingly supported by Hospice Care Corporation. The Selby-MacDonald family would like all involved with his care to know that they will be forever remembered for their kindness in the compassionate care provided during “Dad’s” final days. John 14:1-7. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Barney’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family has entrusted Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554 with final arrangements. Mr. Ehrhart was cremated and interred at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown, W. Va. on Wednesday, November 18 with Father Dass as celebrant.
